Soft Inflatable boat (sib boat) when under production, can choose different transom.
Plywood transom and aluminum transom.
(1). Material properties
Plywood transom:
usually made of multiple layers of thin wood sheets cross-glued together, with certain strength and toughness.
For example, the common marine grade plywood has good water resistance after special treatment,
but it may still be damp and rotten if exposed to humid environment for a long time.
Aluminum transom:
made of aluminum alloy material, it has excellent corrosion resistance, is not easy to rust, and can adapt to various harsh water environments.
For example, in seawater environment, aluminum transom is more resistant to salt erosion than plywood transom.
(2). Strength and durability
Plywood transom:
The strength can meet the use requirements of general small boats, but after being subjected to large external forces or long-term use,
it may deform, crack and other problems. Especially under the condition of frequent engine vibration and water flow impact,
the structural integrity of plywood may gradually decrease.
Aluminum transom:
high strength, can withstand large pressure and tension, and is not easy to deform.
It performs well in durability, has a long service life, and generally does not need to be replaced frequently.
(3). Processing and Installation
Plywood transom: It is relatively easy to process and can be cut into various shapes and sizes as needed,
suitable for DIY enthusiasts to install by themselves. However, during the installation process,
it is necessary to pay attention to the sealing treatment to prevent moisture intrusion and rot.
Aluminum transom: It is more difficult to process and usually requires professional tools and techniques,
such as welding and cutting. High precision is required during installation to ensure a tight connection with the hull.
(4). Weight
Plywood transom: It is relatively light in weight and has little impact on the overall weight of the boat,
which helps to improve the boat's sailing performance and fuel economy.
Aluminum transom: The weight varies depending on the type and thickness of the aluminum alloy,
but it is generally heavier than the plywood transom. On some small boats that are sensitive to weight, it may affect its speed and maneuverability.
(5). Cost
Plywood transom: The cost is low and the material price is relatively cheap. It is an affordable choice, especially for users with limited budgets.
Aluminum transom: The cost is high, including material cost and processing cost.
However, in the long run, due to its good durability and low maintenance cost, it may have a certain cost-effectiveness within its service life.
(6). Maintenance
Plywood stern plate: It needs to be checked regularly. If there are problems such as rot and deformation,
it should be replaced in time. At the same time, it is necessary to do a good job of waterproofing and moisture-proofing, such as applying waterproof paint and sealant.
Aluminum stern plate: Daily maintenance is relatively simple, just clean it regularly to remove dirt and salt.
If there are scratches or damage on the surface, it should be repaired in time to prevent further corrosion.
